TherapyWorks.training is the most exhilarating post qualifying counselling provision that I have ever been part of. The idea of a network of coherent, cohort-based courses for qualified therapists (as opposed to short CPD) is ground breaking and will lead to much greater depths of theoretical intentionality and efficacious professional practice. The cross-modality Advanced Diploma in Intersubjective Approaches to Counselling and Psychotherapy that I lead is unique in its conception of exploring Stern’s Developmental Approach to attachment and the Intersubjective Matrix. These are then applied to a series of established modalities such as Humanistic, Relational Psychodynamic, Existential and Transactional Analysis; the outcome is to generate new multi-layers of sophisticated awareness and practice, which you are then able to integrate into your existing model. Your understanding of your own and your client’s moment-by-moment process in any given client session will be heightened and the landscape of temporal and creative possibilities definitively expanded.
Let me say a few words about my experience as a trainer and therapist…I joined BCPC in 2016 and lectured on both the Counselling Diploma and the 3rd Year of the Masters Psychotherapy programme and was delighted to be asked to chair the summer exam board. I originally started my lecturing career at the University of Wales, Newport in 2006 (this later merged with Glamorgan to become the University of South Wales) and have worked on every part of the Diploma and Masters Programmes during that time. The counselling programmes evolved significantly during that period and indeed I was the only lecturer to be part of every module of ever cohort on the Diploma from 2006-2016. I was pleased to extend the relational psychodynamic and existential humanistic strands and my role more generally this meant being embedded in all aspects of training, supervision and management. I was responsible for co-writing the new two-year programme and for designing and implementing all the changes to the skills assessments on the new programme. At the other end of the scale, following the university merger, the Diploma was required to seek a fresh BACP accreditation in 2015 (rather than re-accreditation), I was part of the team to manage that task and was delighted that my lectures & workshops were selected as those for the two assessors to observe on the days they attended the university. The Diploma gained its new BACP accreditation in May 2015.
I originally qualified as an Integrative Psychotherapist and Counsellor in 2005 and now have over 8,000 hours of one-to one experience of counselling individuals and couples. Working with a wide range of issues, I specialise in areas of anxiety, depression, suicidal feelings, abuse and bi-polar disorder. I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP) as well as a Registered Member of the BACP.
